Wind Me Down
After a weekend full of activities, events and giving in to sinfully delicious indulgences my body feels like it’s in need of a restart. So here’s a little trick I use for days like these, that has actually become a part of my Sunday night ritual. It’s simple, but it will do wonders to help you recuperate for the busy week ahead!
As a certified nutritionist, I have learned that magnesium can be a great addition to your health regimen. For those of you who don’t know, magnesium is a mineral that is responsible for many functions in the body and most of us are deficient in it. Various factors that contribute to a lack of magnesium can be deficiencies in your diet, having too much calcium or even emotional stress.
So what are the benefits of taking Magnesium?
1) Muscle relaxation for a good night’s rest
2) A boost in the production of melatonin (a hormone made by a small gland in the brain that helps control your sleep cycles)
3) Can act as a laxative to aid in detoxifying your body from overindulging
So tonight pick your favorite herbal tea and drop in a small dose of magnesium powder (doses vary from person to person depending on your existing magnesium levels). My recommendation is to start with a small teaspoon. If drinking tea on a hot summer night is not your thing make it an ice tea. Another option instead of drinking your magnesium is immersing yourself in a hot bath with Epsom salts (magnesium sulfate) and a few drops of lavender oil. Now that’s the way to end a fabulous summer weekend.
